Way to Success – Examine the Values You Hold

Image
Let's Think of Values Values are principles or beliefs, held by each of us. These are instilled in us, to the core, generally in early life, mostly the influence of family, social circle, and school. Although, the overall impact of the culture and society we live in dominates how we think and freeze our views, and make us take a stand on various topics; values guide our behavior, motives, ultimately influence our goal. If your goals are aligned to your values, you stand a better chance to achieve them. First, understand your values and beliefs. What is it that you care for intensely and intently. Many things in your life will be dependent on your values, how you make a living, live your life. If goals are not aligned to your values then they will ultimately fizzle out after the initial rush. As your values do not sync, you will start losing interest in that goal. Trust yourself and your intuitions. Simplify the solutions that you set for yourself. The more complicated th

Way to Success – Set Clear Goals

Image
In my previous post ‘ Work Hard Today For A Better Tomorrow ‘, I had spoken about setting SMART goals and visualizing your future. Here is an elaborate discussion on the importance of goal setting. It’s always good to have a plan, rather than have no plan at all. As humans, we are having the power of thoughts and the ability to control them. Goals too, start with a single thought to begin with, and the actions we put in, are ways to manifest them to reality. It is important to live your goal and breath it every single moment. Having goal clarity rapidly changes the way you think and desire them. But, the question is, aren’t we naturally programmed to set goals and work on them? Day-in-and-day-out we are doing that. We have reasons behind the actions we do, we want a good job, a decent income, a happy family, a successful life and so much more. These are some of the reasons common to most of us, the reasons why we kickstart our day, slog it out, and make a living. So we do

How to Overcome Fear of Public Speaking?

Image
Throughout childhood and my school life, I was a shy and to an extent introverted girl. I would talk to a group of close, trusted friends. It was grade 7 when I was standing on the stage for an elocution competition, and stage freight struck me hard. I got severe cramps and fell down right at the place where I was standing. Today, after almost 20 years, I am a successful trainer and L and D professional, with 11 plus years of experience. So how did this fear vanish? Or did it diminish, and some of it is still there?  Here I shall share some things which I did over the years. Most of them are tried and tested over places by people and they have worked wonders to overcome stage fear. Glossophobia- Fear of Public Speaking Fear of Public Speaking is known as Glossophobia . About 75% of the population suffers from this condition. However, most people do not know about it, as they do not get a chance to engage in public speaking, or they get over this social phobia once t

Practical Ways Of Engaging In Learning And Improving Retention

Image
Recently, I saw a video of Shiv Khera, the world-class motivational speaker, talks about how this time of lockdown is downtime , and for most of us, it is an opportunity to upgrade our skills, learn a new competency, take up a new course which may be useful for our career. Once the lockdown opens, we will be able to start off with renewed energy and focus. Most of us are honing on this opportunity and taking to the internet to learn new information and learn new courses. Many websites like Coursera, Udemy, and many others also offering free courses for those who are interested. But with tons of information being piled up in front of us, it is essential for us to chunk and store it well in our memory. We must be able to access the reservoir of information. Information Overload Getting exposed to a lot of information is detrimental and may instead confuse us . However, if we are aiming at taking in the right amount of information would be ideal to get mental stimulat

Bringing Humor To Life

Image
Laughter is the Best Medicine With the invention of cell phones, every other person you see around is hooked to their smart devices. One of the most engaging and amazing things on your mobile would be access to various kinds of content. With the ease of access and prices of mobiles and data being reasonably cheap, every family member owns their individual cell phone. It's been a while since I have been observing that apart from reading the information, a lot of content we consume is in form of photos and videos. Whether people are watching movies, online series, or playing graphic games, usually I see people watching a lot of violence, hate stories, crime, pain, broken promises, dejection, and unhappiness. I do agree that we have good, meaningful, and informative content available too. Some online DIY videos, cookery videos even save our day. But I have come across the negative content more often. Watching gloomy and cynical content may not have an immediate effect on

Work Hard Today For A Better Tomorrow

Image
In the ever-changing world, we all need to keep pace with the constant process of evolution. It is said 'Work hard today for a better tomorrow.' This statement holds significance since times immemorial, and it has become of prime importance in recent times. I believe humans must have the drive to achieve something advanced and substantial in life. Life should not be frugal, it should be extravagant. What is life without goals, a passion to achieve them, and the final accomplishment of those goals? Our Late, Respected President Dr. Abdul Kalam quoted that 'Dreams is not what you see when you sleep, dreams is the thing that does not let you sleep.' We have motives for survival which gives us the urge to live and work. But our mind and the capability of the brain is much more. So we should set higher goals and challenge ourselves. Who said it was easy? But I assure you it is extremely fulfilling. Whether your goal is a work project completion, pu

50 days homebound

Image
2020 Homebound After much commotion and fuss, we have finally spent 50 days under lockdown. These 50 days have changed our thoughts, impacted our emotions, and transformed our lives almost irreversibly. Blessed are most of us who have safe homes, family, and access to good food and other amenities. Having many luxuries of life, we have spent our lockdown time in varying ways. Apart from doing the mundane tasks of home and office, there are enormous opportunities for engaging in a productive manner that people have found in the comfort of their homes. Taking to social media platforms people have announced their passions. By shares, comments, and likes they receive, they find solace of being connected with the outside world. Although the internet offers us many more ways to be involved and busy. We may not practically be able to do a lot of things considering they may not fit our lifestyle. In these days I have seen people doing some of the following tasks: a)

A Year Of My Life

Image
It does not feel like it was long ago. It's just been a year, on this very day, I was 7 months pregnant. That, for me, was my first Mother's Day as an expectant mum. My heart raced as time was coming closer to my delivery. As months passed I had started to look and walk like a penguin. The wishes I got on that day, made me feel how special it was, to be a mother. A Mother Is Born Days passed and it was increasingly difficult to move around. I still went to the office until 30th June 2019. It was just 15 days left for my due date. Light anxiety, coupled with eagerness prevailed. On 15th July 2019, I was admitted to the hospital to induce labor and after 14 hours when my child was not taking the right birthing position, I went for a c-sec. 16th July 2019, 10.31 am, my daughter, Fravashi was born. I still remember being semi-conscious when I had the first glimpse of my child. It was not until I was completely conscious, and had my baby in my arms, that I felt t

Tips On Managing Time Effectively During Lockdown

Image
It's 3.15 am, I wake up from my slumber. I see my husband engrossed in his cell phone, the light of the screen flashing on his face in the darkness of the room. I walked towards the window and saw the lights of the row house opposite my house switched on. I wondered what's happening at this time of night when people are supposed to be sound asleep. It's late in the afternoon and we are still not hungry, as we've had a late breakfast. It's 4 pm and I still haven't got done with cleaning, sweeping and swabbing. These, and many such delays in daily activities, I am sure you are also observing in your routine. Is this procrastination? Not really. Procrastination is when we put off things which are to be done right now or at this very moment, to be done another day or later. But this delay or putting off is not an effect of only procrastinating our activities. Moving out of the house, going to work, getting ready for a meeting, sending children t

Business And Work After Covid 19

Recently I read an open letter was written by the CEO and Co-Founder of Airbnb Brain Chesky to his employees. It was an expression of a well-crafted business strategy accompanied by a message that reflected care for his employees. For business over the world, this year is all about survival leave aside profits, and for survival and sailing through this tough time, we need to stand as one. For sustaining business, Airbnb also decided to ask about 1900of its 7500 employees to leave the organization. But this shocking news was broken by the CEO in such a positive manner in this letter, as if he were addressing his family. The company has decided to be fair with the severance pay that employees should receive, are giving them support for getting a new job, providing health cover for an extended time and offering mental health support. Many business leaders have been contemplating on taking hard decisions, just like Airbnb did, while some are changing the ways of working and have
